This article will explain in detail how you can set up the ArcGIS API key for your WP Maps product locator. Assuming you have created a product locator build with an ArcGIS map, you will simply need to acquire the API key from their website to make the map function properly. Furthermore, ArcGis is a great web service provider because it offers a large quota of free services and, unlike Google Maps, it does not require a billing account.
To enable or set up the ArcGIS API key, please the below steps:
Step 1: Go to the ArcGIS developer website at https://developers.arcgis.com/
Step 2: Log in if you have an account, if not please create a new user account on the ArcGIS developer website
Step 3: On the main dashboard, click on the “Manage all API keys” button.
Step 4: On the next page click on “New API key” to bring up the “Create new API key” prompt.
Create New API key
Step 5: Choose a title and description for the API key and press “ Create API Key”
Step 6: Once the API key is created, copy it, then go to the “Super Admin” Page in WP Maps, next go to the “API Keys” section, select “ArcGIS”, and paste the API key in the “API Token” box and press save.
Paste the API Key
The last part of the process involves restricting the API key so that other websites don't use it. For this please do the following:
Step 1: On the ArcGis dashboard, click on the “Add Referrer” button.
Step 2: Add the website name that will be using that API key and click on “Add Referrer Header”.
Add a Referrer
Now your API key has been secured, simply refresh the build in the WP Maps dashboard to apply the changes.
